Dance music magazine BPM's editor David Ireland proclaims
the world has a lotta love for trance in his gushing liner notes.
Love it or hate it, trance is the reason why so many people
have jumped on the rave bandwagon in the past few years. It's
no secret why, it has a simple formula and has recognizable
melodic hooks that are listener and radio friendly. It has looks
and superstar DJs something techno and jungle just don't have.
Trance is, however, still a gateway into a larger world and
as easily as it is to listen to it's the music most ravers stop
listening to when they discover something they like. That Trance
Mix is an attempt to give trance some credibility. It contains
the biggest names and biggest cuts from the trance scene right
now. The disk doesn't really succeed in legitimizing trance
but it does make a great introduction to dance music for neophytes.
There aren't many surprises on That Trance Mix with Joshua Ryan,
Micro, Delerium, ATB, Da Hool, DJ Tiesto, BT and System F representing
with many variations on the hands-in-the-air anthem theme. Highlights
include Christopher Lawrence delivering the goods with his soon-to-be-released
"Mind Eraser" and Italian newcomer Joy Kitikonti on a Josh Wink-inspired
corker entitled "Joyenergizer" making That Trance Mix a worthwhile
listen, at least.
