A Coupla Trickz tricks marks the return of the jump-up jungle
god Aphrodite.This is a teaser for his upcoming full length
that is loaded with multimedia goodies like a killer Quicktime
video of "Hoochie" that is a must see as well as links to exclusive
downloads of his upcoming full length due out later this year.
Featuring only 7 tracks with 4 of them being "Hoochie" it's
kind of disappointing that all of these tracks have been out
at least a year and "Wobble" has been available as an import
for at least 4 years. Proof that the jump-up jungle scene, once
thriving, has waned and would be all but dead if not for Aphrodite.
What made jump-up and Aphrodite so exciting in the first place
is that the tracks were made from hip hop tracks that everyone
knows often featuring snippets of the rapper as well. A Coupla
Trickz is no exception, this time Aphrodite resurrects the career
of original OG Schoolly D (he of the Gucci and fuzzy Kangol
hats) on "Hoochie" and the results are raunchy and fun as hell.
"Lava Flow" features synth stabs from Joey Beltram's old school
rave classic "Mentasm" and "Wobble" has been tearing up dancefloors
and shredding bassbins for quite sometime. It's just a shame
that an artist and producer so fun and exciting can't give the
public something all new. Formulas are great but the masses
are ready for something new but can Aphrodite deliver?
